Burke; Note that even though the infamous racketeer and gambler is never mentioned in the movie itself, the publicity department gives the full title of the movie as: Now I’ll Tell by Mrs. Arnold Rothstein, as evidenced by this lobby card. This is an obvious attempt to cash in on the notoriety of Arnold “the Brain” Rothstein, kingpin of the Jewish mob in New York City, whose name is forever linked with the alleged conspiring to fix the 1919 World Series. This Pre-Code film starring Spencer Tracy, is loosely based on the autobiography by Mrs. Arnold Robinson, which is the pseudonym adopted by the widow of Arnold Rothstein. The historical facts surrounding the lead character have been altered and obscured, and even his name was changed to Murray Golden. |
