| Notes: Director: Burt Balaban, Stuart Rosenberg; Murder Inc was the name given to an organized crime group that operated as the enforcement arm of the Mafia and the Jewish mob during the 30’s and 40’s, and was active in Brooklyn, New York. The film is based on real life events, and some of the characters represent real historical gangsters, many of which happen to be Jewish. Thus, Peter Falk is cast as Abe “Kid Twist” Reles, David J. Stewart in the role of Louis “Lepke” Buchalter, and Joseph Bernard is Emanuel “Mendy” Weiss. The movie was the first major film role for Peter Falk, who credited it as the major reason for the career he later enjoyed in motion pictures. He was also nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in this film. |
