| Notes: Director: Michael Powel: AKA: 49th Parallel. The movie premiered in England on October 1941, only two months before the attack on Pearl Harbor and the American entry into WW2. As such, a German U-boat crew are stranded in northern Canada, who is at war with Germany, and to avoid capture are trying to reach safety in the United States, who are still officially neutral at that time. It is a very entertaining war drama, with a strong cast and many exciting situations, but for my money the best part is Laurence Olivier's against type performance, as the boistrous French Canadian. Too bad his participation is cut short early on in the movie. |
