| Notes: Director: Wolfgang Staudte; The first German movie made after WW2, and it dealt with the aftermath of the war, and the attempt of Germans to come to grips with their part in it. The director met with refusal on the part of the Americans, British and French for the making of this film, believing it to be too political. The Russians however gave it their consent, because they believed and encouraged the Denazification and re-education of the German public. This movie was also a personal purging for the director, Wolfgang Staudte, who had a small part as an actor the infamous anti-Semitic, Nazi film Jud Suss.
