| Notes: Director: Assi Dayan; This is considered Dayan’s best directorial work. He also wrote the script. The story takes place in a small bar in Tel Aviv, by the name of Barbi, which is the derogatory name for a famous mental institution in Israel. The characters we meet at the bar are presumably a microcosm of Israeli society, and as such, paint a very pessimistic view of the future. The film enjoyed critical and commercial success, and over the years has become to be considered a landmark in Israeli cinema. |
