| Notes: Director: Mel Gibson ; Numerous movies have been made about every imaginable aspect of Jesus’s life. The majority of those are naturally with a Christian viewpoint and are not within the scope of our theme. The reason an exception was made in the case of this particular movie, is the fact that a great amount of publicity was made before, during, and after the release of this visually powerful movie, revolving around the question of whether the Director and co-writer, Mel Gibson, has made a movie with an anti-Semitic bent, and whether he himself was in fact harboring anti-Semitic sentiments. This discussion was widespread and not restricted at all to so called Jewish publications. The controversy went on and included calls for boycotting the film, but in-spite of it all, it became one of the highest grossing films of all time. Cinematically it is certainly worth watching, you can then judge for yourself its merits or lack of thereof. |
