| Notes: Director: Yael Hersonski ; A documentary film that re-examines an unfinished 1942 German propaganda film depicting the Warsaw Ghetto two months before the Germans exterminated its Jewish inhabitants. The footage is a depraved attempt by the Nazi propaganda machine to show the unfortunate, starving, and miserable Jewish inhabitants of the ghetto in a bad light, but in doing so it must have been obvious to the original documentary makers that it is, in fact, themselves that they are exposing as the inhuman monsters that are perpetrating and responsible for the atrocities depicted. Because the original documentary was never finished, it remains a mystery, or at least subject to guessing and interpretation as to what the exact purpose of this documentary was? Nonetheless, it remains an important piece of historical documentation of a major chapter in the Holocaust, and powerful tool in this current attempt to re-examine the twisted Nazi psyche. |
