| Notes: Director: Guy Hamilton ; The 11th century Colditz Castle, sited on a rocky hilltop near Dresden, was transformed during WWII into a high security POW prison. It was considered "escape proof" and designed especially to house Allied officers who were a habitual breakout threat. The officers were British, French, Dutch and Polish, and against all odds many did manage to escape. While the movie does not mention it specifically, it is a historical fact that a relatively large number of prisoners at Colditz, about 10%, were Jews who, for obvious reasons, were very careful to hide this fact from their German captors. |
