Notes: Director: Sergio Leone ; The famed spaghetti western master gives us his version of a prohibition era, Lower East Side Manhattan gangster movie, but in this nostalgic, lyrical, and epic tale, the focus is on a Jewish gang that is being followed from the time they are teens all the way to late adulthood. The musical score by another master, Ennio Morricone, is simply unforgettable, and becomes an integral and essential part of the movie. In this scene, the two youngsters taking a beating are the characters that later on grow up to be James Woods (right), and Robert De Niro (left). |
