Notes: Director: Nuri Habib; AKA: Without Homeland; A chapter in Israel's history that is seldom related, and certainly absent cinematically. This is one story of the haphazard, yet bold and courageous Aliyah of yemenite Jews to Eretz Israel, then Palestine, in the 1920's. What makes this episode even more incredible is the fact that the journey was made on foot, across dangerous and belligerent territories. The film itself is Israel's first to be shot in color. This souvenir, known as a herald, was given to the patrons of the Pe'er Cinema in Haifa as a free gift on the occasion of the premier showing of the film in 29 September, 1956. This film was also the debut of Shaike Ophir(left), one of Israel's most beloved performers. |
