| Notes: Director: George Sherman; This is the first American film to deal with the so-called Israel’s War of Independence 1947-8. The interesting thing is that the Israelis are shown here to be fighting the British rather than the Arabs. This understandably did not sit well with the Brits and has cause some controversy. In Britain, screening of the movie has sparked public demonstrations, so much so that on opening night there was even a bomb threat. After five days of protest, public showing of the movie was prohibited. This movie offered Jeff Chandler his first significant role. |
