| Notes: Director: Damian Szifron; this Argentine production, AKA Relatos Salvajes has received worldwide critical acclaim to the point of becoming a cult film. The movie is populated with seemingly normal people that suddenly behave in an irrational manner, and ordinary situations disintegrate to the absurd and ridiculous. The movie is an anthology of 6 short black comedy films, and the only common thread is the occurrence of “catharsis, violence, and vengeance”. Of Jewish interest is the last segment entitled Hasta que la Muerte separe, or Till Death Do Us Part. It takes place in a Jewish wedding reception, where the bride finds out that the groom has had sex with on of the guests. Totally devastated, the bride goes up to the roof, presumably to jump off, but she encounters the chef, a total stranger, who tries to console her. This quickly develops into a passionate and has sex act. If that wasn’t enough, she declares to her husband, who in the meantime has found here where abouts, that she will have sex with any man who pays her attention and make her husbands’ life miserable. All go back to the reception room, where the bride extends both arms towards the groom’s ex-love interest, as in an invitation to dance, but then spins her and smashes her into a mirror. As the groom breaks down and weeps, the bride instructs the photographer to film this fiasco. The grooms’ mother, in a fit of anger, attacks the bride, who in turn collapses. The groom extends a helping hand to the bride, she takes it, they dance, kiss, and proceed to have sex as the guests are leaving. Can’t imagine too many weddings like this…may be in Argentina…?
