Notes: Director: James Foley; This is an ensemble cast movie scripted by David Mamet based on his own play. It deals with a small group of high strung, super competitive salesmen in a Chicago real estate office. There are two or three Jewish characters in the movie, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, and possibly Ed Harris. There is nothing in the plot or their behaviour that would identify them as such, except for their names and the odd Yiddish word, or choice of expression used in their speech. Dave Moss (Ed Harris) and George Aaronow (Alan Arkin) in a closed conversation discussing the possibility of robbing their office. When Aaronow is later questioned by the police about the robbery, he bursts out “I’m through with this fuckin’ meshugaas (craziness, in Yiddish). How can you talk to me that way? I came in to work, and I meet Gestapo tactics. Gestapo tactics!” |
