Notes: Director: James Foley; This is an ensemble cast movie scripted by David Mamet based on his own play. It deals with a small group of high strung, super competitive salesmen in a Chicago real estate office. There are two or three Jewish characters in the movie, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, and possibly Ed Harris. There is nothing in the plot or their behaviour that would identify them as such, except for their names and the odd Yiddish word, or choice of expression used in their speech. Shelley “The Machine” Levene, in one of his many desperate calls, from a phonebooth, to his daughter or her doctor, when he’s trying to juggle his personal problems, on top of the nerve wrecking environment at the office. |
